A Sprinkling of Shimmer: Jasper Garvida SS12

As soon as I saw the images of Pixie Lott celebrating her 21st birthday I immediately recognised the gorgeous gown as the opening look of Jasper Garvida's SS12 collection. During London Fashion Week I stepped away from the cobbles of Somerset House to the glittering chandeliers and old fashioned glamour of the Bloomsbury Hotel to view the Central St. Martins alumnus and Project Catwalk winner's collection for the shiny new SS12 season. I was a huge fan of Jasper Garvida's work on Project Catwalk and he hasn't disappointed me since so I was really excited to see the new collection. Like the dress favoured by Pixie the collection featured three more full length gowns and I was blown away each time one came out- the movement in the flowing skirts was incredible.
The collection is feminine yet strong with circling patterns present throughout whether in print or the shapes of panels and ornament. Womanly curves were emphasised with tight waists, exaggerated peplum details and glistening gold and silver embellishment. The base colour palette was a sophisticated black and white, but emphasised with attention seeking metallics.
In addition to the statement gowns we had slick, tailored separates and a host of neat little dresses perfect for cocktail occasions and smart parties. I also saw oversized sleek flounce details, which I especially liked when symmetric for a very chic look.
The designs cleverly harked back to ancient styles but at the same time felt very futuristic in the choice of tough fabrics and powerful silhouettes. Some of the metal embellishment was very heavy indeed, almost like hardwear but more refined. I thought the collection was a delight with its mix of refinement and playfulness and I'm definitely ready for a summer with a little bit of sparkle.
