I've already shown you this very Vivenne Westwood filled outfit of Pearl's in my post Florrie, Pearl and a Pug which I shot on my DSLR (a Canon EOS 550D) but here it is on film! I made this foray into black and white film for my college coursework and my pictures arrived back from the Ilford lab yesterday. We started in Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester and continued in the city centre. Despite troubles with flecks on the scanner surface and photos sliding about I persevered to scan them in to show to Pearl and the rest of you and here they are.
I borrowed a college camera, with a dodgy lightmeter which didn't much help when it came to trying to pick shutter speeds! I kept the aperture to a low F-Stop as I tend to think this works well with outfit photos generally. I'll admit I had some problems with the focus- no auto settings when it comes to old school photography! I gradually got a little more in the swing of things- even remembering to wind on before I set up a shot, well most of the time anyway!
These photos were such fun to take and I like to think I got at least some good shots in the end! Have any of you had a go at film photography or would you like to?

For myself I prefer digital photog. It's more eco-friendly, and more forgiving and less expensive for my many amatueur shots.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm a huge fan of Pearl, and her rad style, and think that its worth the effort to shoot on film. Cuz film captures nuances better than digital. And she is most assuredly, deliciously nuanced.
Oooh this looks fab! xx

ReplyDeleteI miss film photography! I really ought to get back into it, it does capture something that digital is unable to.
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome. Totally love the quality - whether it was intentional or not! I'd love to try out shooting with a film camera. Keep hoping I'll find one stashed away somewhere.
ReplyDeleteReally think these have some a beautiful dreamy other-wordly quality about them. Absolutely love it. xx
